There was a time and place where stress helped us to survive – those who were hyper-vigilant lived and those who were laid-back got eaten. But now we frequently react to ‘invisible tigers' – discouraging relationships, overwhelming careers, financial worries, daunting parenting problems.

Your experience of stress is actually the combination of what has happened, your interpretation of the event, and what resources you believe you possess to cope with the event. How stressed you feel is directly related to how high the stakes are for you – what are the consequences you think may result from the stressor?

One of the most effective ways to manage stress is a feeling of control over your circumstances and your life. By increasing your self-awareness you can learn to recognize what you are doing and why you are doing it. Self-awareness can give rise to self-acceptance and self-confidence. Through counseling you can learn ways to better cope with stress, reframe the way you view stressful situations, maintain your wellness, and use stress as a catalyst to change.
