Where is that stork??? Who knew it could be so darn hard – after all doesn't it happen every day to other people? For some of us building a family takes a bit longer and is a bit more difficult.
Infertility can feel like an overwhelming challenge. It can shake a marriage to its very core and leave both partners feeling isolated, angry and hopeless. It is not uncommon to experience feelings of jealousy at others' apparent ease of fertility, anger at your partner, disappointment that sex has become a chore, and frustration that life seems out of your control. While all of these feelings are perfectly normal and natural, you CAN gain a sense of peace in the meantime...
Until the stork arrives try some of these helpful tips:
- Exercise: It relieves stress, increases feel-good endorphins and will get you healthy and in great shape to prepare your body for pregnancy. Even a brisk walk for 30 minutes a day can make a big difference in the way you feel.
- Acupuncture: It is proven to increase your chances of conceiving and is a wonderful, calming experience to relax you and get you in optimal health. We highly recommend Swasti Oyama, L. Ac. at the Acupuncture Center of Atlanta at (404)321-9364.
- Keep Living Your Life: Don't let waiting for that positive pregnancy test stop you in your tracks. What are your dreams and hopes for your future above and beyond building a family? Go back to school, take that dance class you've been talking about, or that trip to Europe. Don't put your life on hold!
- Keep Hope Alive: Hope is such an important part of dealing with fertility issues. Whether it is growing your spiritual life, finding a positive, encouraging friend to confide in, or speaking with a professional counselor, do something to keep your hope thriving.
Until your fertility issues are resolved you can benefit greatly by talking to someone you trust about what you are experiencing. You can learn coping methods that can help you through this trying time. To schedule an appointment please contact Hilary Phillips at hphillips@connectionsatl.com or (404)702-6227.
